Snowbird Sets All Time Single Season Snowfall Record!

Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort hit a 40-year all time record for single season snowfall on April 26, reaching the 690-inch mark thanks to a spring storm that has brought two feet to Little Cottonwood Canyon in the last 48 hours. Snowbird’s previous single season official record was 688 inches, set in the 1983-84 season. The resort’s mid-mountain base currently stands at 190 inches, with more snow forecasted through the weekend.

“This has been a remarkable season for Snowbird,” said resort president Bob Bonar. “We’ll be celebrating with skiing til Memorial Day and most likely beyond, with conditions that are anything but typical spring skiing.”

690 inches, or 57.5 feet, measures nearly the height of each sculpture face at the Mount Rushmore National Monument, more than a third of the height of the Statue of Liberty, and easily tops Utah’s Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. This is the fourth consecutive season Snowbird has topped 600 inches mid-mountain, with water content in this year’s snowfall well exceeding record levels. The latest closing date in the history of the Little Cottonwood Canyon resort is July 4 (in 1995 and 2005).

“Having skied at Snowbird for 16 years, I can honestly say this is by far the best year of powder skiing I’ve ever experienced,” said local pro athlete Ben Wheeler. “The mountain is incredibly filled in, with areas that used to be 30-foot cliffs completely buried under all this snow.”

WONDERFUL SEASON AT DEER VALLEY COMES TO AN END.

Deer Valley Resort and Summit Meadows Adventures Snowmobiling will close for the 2010/2011 winter ski season on Sunday, April 10th. Events for everyone and amazing snow created a paradise for everyone who came. Deer Valley will be open daily for the 2011 summer season June 17 through Labor Day, and for an additional weekend on September 10 and 11 (conditions permitting). Don’t be sad if you didn’t get a chance to experience Deer Valley in the winter. There is plenty for you to experience during summer. Deer Valley has some of the best mountain bike riding you will find at any resort. Over 65 miles of lift-served mountain biking and hiking as well as scenic chairlift rides. Ride the Silver Lake Express chairlift or drive to the Royal Street Cafe for a mid-mountain meal on the deck. Royal Street Cafe will be open June 17 through Labor Day, serving lunch daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The menu features appetizers, salads, paninis, Deer Valley’s Turkey Chili, specialty entrees and creative cocktails. The Deer Valley Grocery ~ Cafe will remain open year-round. The award-winning food and beverage staff at Deer Valley Resort will continue to offer a changing daily selection of freshly-made on-site and to-go items throughout the spring and summer, and hours will be expanded to include dinner service this summer. MORE SKIING TO BE HAD AT PARK CITY MOUNTAIN RESORT, AND DISCOUNT LODGING

Park City Mountain Resort has extended its 2010-11 ski and snowboard season by an additional week until Sunday, April 17. Resort officials have now announced pricing and lift operations for the final week of the winter season.

Beginning Monday, April 11 the resort will operate eight lifts including PayDay, Crescent, Bonanza, Silverlode, Thaynes, Jupiter, First Time and Three Kings. Three Kings and King’s Crown terrain parks will also be open.

Lift ticket pricing for the extended week of the season is $65 for a full day adult (13-64) and $40 for a half day, $45 for a full day senior ticket for those 65 and over, and $40 for a full day for children ages 7-12 and $25 for a half day. Children 6 and under ski or ride for free. Rides on the resort’s Alpine Coaster will be reduced to $10.

Canyons and Deer Valley Resort season pass holders will be able to purchase a single-day lift ticket to Park City Mountain Resort for $40 when they show their current 2010-11 season pass.

Additional Park City Mountain Resort hours of operations scheduled for the extended week of the season include the following:

Kristi’s Coffee Cafe 7:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Legacy Cafe 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Legends Bar and Grill 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

Legacy Sports 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Ski and Snowboard School and Park City Mountain Rentals will be fully operational through April 17; however the Repair Shop and Ski Valet will close as regularly scheduled on April 10. The Demo Center will close for the season on April 3.
