Abode Green Initiative

Here at Abode, we understand the importance of incorporating more sustainable measures into how we function as a small business. We recognize the fragility of Earth and it’s ecosystems and believe that even the smallest steps, are still steps in the right direction. This is why we have started our “Green Initiative” program that will permeate all aspects of Abode’s many different practices.

What about water?

Water is our town's most pressing concern and limited resource and it is no secret that Utah is facing serious issues regarding our water. We intend to implement more measures that aim to contribute to a solution for this problem such as Brita filters, reusable aluminum water bottles, and encouraging our guests to take more considerate approaches to their water usage while staying with Abode.

What about plastics?

Single use plastics pose a serious threat to the very delicate ecosystems that exist in Park City. Historically, single use plastics are known for breaking down into smaller pieces (though not completely) and being ingested by the wildlife in the surrounding area. In order to take measures to reduce how Abode contributes to single use plastics impacting our wildlife we have begun reducing these products by starting with single use plastic hand pump soaps and detergent pods in large plastic containers.

What about toiletries?

Abode has joined "Clean the World" a program that aims to recycle personal hygiene and sanitation products to reduce the impact they have on the environment when simply thrown away. Abode collects lightly used toiletries such as hand soap and donates them to Clean the World Foundation where these products are given to communities that have pressing basic sanitation needs.

What about electricity?

It's no secret that energy usage has major impacts on the environment and the wildlife that calls it home. Because of this Abode has begun replacing all standard lightbulbs with LED lightbulbs. LED lighting provides various advantages such as being significantly more energy efficient, producing zero toxic elements, requiring less light fixtures, and having a longer life span.

What about transportation?

Abode also encourages its guests to take advantage of the various modes of public transportation here in Park City. Our town has pressing transportation issues that can be alleviated by using free public transportation even in the smallest frequencies. By our guests personally taking steps to do so they also contribute to ensuring that our town has better air quality, less wildlife deaths, open space preservation, and higher water quality.
